Russia/Ukraine Update

by Branee Knoll

On Wednesday, Biden headed to Europe on Wednesday to meet with allies, as Russia’s invasion on Ukraine has almost lasted a month. Western leaders are expected to disclose the latest round of sanctions to pressure Moscow to end the war. Biden could also announce plans for the United States to permanently maintain an increased number of troops in NATO countries near Ukraine. Dmitry Peskov, a Russian diplomat and press secretary for Valdmir Putin, refused to rule out the possibility that Russia could use nuclear weapons in the conflict.

In an address Tuesday night, Zelenskyy, a Ukrainian politician, said Russian forces had captured relief workers near the besieged port city of Mariupol after agreeing on a humanitarian corridor. More than 3.5 million people have fled Ukraine, according to the United Nations, while millions more have been internally displaced. At least 7,000 Russian troops have died in the first month of the war in Ukraine, but the actual number could be roughly double that amount. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said Wednesday that Russian forces have killed 264 civilians in his besieged city since the start of President Vladimir Putin’s invasion.

I don’t think this “war” shouldn’t be going on, because innocent adults and children are dying. There are many people trying to relocate to a different country, and most of them have to walk to the border. There have been 406 civilians who have died, even though this war is very unnecessary.  What do you think about the Russia/Ukraine crisis?
